Gary Marx, Faith Leaders Advocate for Ukrainian Evangelicals on Call with Speaker Johnson’s Office

Today, the office of Speaker Mike Johnson invited Gary Marx, President of Defenders of Faith and Religious Freedom in Ukraine, to speak on a briefing call regarding the persecution of Evangelical Christians in Ukraine.

“American Evangelicals have been confronted with undeniable evidence that Russian forces occupying Ukraine have been persecuting Christian Evangelicals for their faith,” said Gary Marx. “These modern martyrs are getting bound and gagged, dragged off in the middle of the night, tortured, and killed for their faith in Jesus. I believe that Evangelicals, at this moment, have the opportunity to be instruments of God’s will in Ukraine. God wants to save His children – our Ukrainian brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s our duty to stand up and speak out on their behalf. For decades, Christians have been persecuted for their faith by Communist governments, and we cannot stay silent and allow history to repeat itself as Moscow targets Ukraine – the Bible Belt of Eastern Europe.”

Other Christian leaders on the call included:

  • Ralph Reed, Founder and Chairman, Faith and Freedom Coalition
  • Former Senator Rick Santorum, Chairman, Patriot Voices
  • Sandy Hagee, Chairwoman, Christians United for Israel Action Fund
  • Brent Leatherwood,  President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC/Southern Baptist Convention)
